FLINT, MI– Ladyfest Flint, a new music and arts festival coming to Flint, announced a T-Shirt contest earlier this month as part of a series of arts-focused events geared towards community.

The selected winner will have their design featured on Ladyfest Flint T-Shirts, buttons and stickers. They will also receive a free vending space at the festival, as well as a 30-minute live feature performance.

“We created this T-Shirt contest as part of our aim to contribute to creating more opportunities for local artists and creative people to become established,” Project Director Nadia Alamah said. “We want our community to see the talent of our local artists, and wearable art is another way to help artists reach a wider audience.”

Ladyfest Flint is part of a larger movement of Ladyfest festivals across the globe, as early as 2000. Ladyfests are unique and independent to their cities/areas and tend to feature live music, artists, spoken word poets, vending and food, workshops, and general local talent.

This year, Ladyfest Flint, a program of Red Ink Flint, is on September 16th and 17th at the Flint Local 432, an all-ages performing arts and community venue.

“Our hope is to promote a sense of trust in community, being all inclusive of all cultures, ethnicities, genders, orientations and ages,” the Ladyfest Flint mission statement reads. “We aim to promote confidence in one’s self image and identity, and to create a safe and supportive space of women to explore their identities, try new things, dare to dream and make the impossible possible.”

Contestants may submit their designs, and any questions, comments or feedback to ladyfestflint@gmail.com by July 8th, 2016 to be eligible for the contest. After deadline, the festival will make all designs available for voting, and a winner will be selected from the top three. More details are featured on their Facebook page.
